Wow~ This is the first time I have been in my office in about 12 days. A good break but I am happy to be back in my cozy, little space again.
This photo is actually from August but I think it fits. Here in the Bay Area, it doesn’t rain at all for months in the summer. Everything dries up and the earth turns brown. Then when you least expect it, in late August, these gorgeous pink flower appear, growing out of the dry, cracked ground. By this time in the year I have always forgotten all about them and it is such a lovely surprise to see them bloom -I just love them.
So, Happy New Year to you and cheers to any unexpected beauty and happy surprises that may come to you in 2010.

Sacha - So, so beautiful. I have been fiddling around with my camera, trying to get shots like your close-up of the pink flower. Not having much luck. I need to get that lens you were talking about for my birthday oh and maybe take some classes! You are a true artist Mary.
