The Garcia -Berkeley Family Portraits

This was my second year doing a portrait session with the Garcias. We spent a little time hanging at the house and then went for a neighborhood walk through the rambling street of the Berkeley hills. The afternoon light was so pretty and their kids are such a great combination of goofy and sweet. Thank you for a great afternoon!

I love these guys. I have been photographing this family for several years -from when Ben was in the belly and they were in the Bay Area visiting from Boston! Now when we see each other, we just hang out, chat, catch up on life, exchange kid stories and I have my camera with me. They are also as lovely on the inside as they are on the outside. (A most important phrase drilled into me by my mother.) Enjoy!

My last portrait session of 2010 ended on such a sweet note… We started at their beautiful loft in SOMA and then walked around the Ferry Building. This always proves to be my best flow -take photos hanging out at home and then heading out into fresh air. Thank you, you three, for such a happy afternoon.

The Pellegrinos have a new baby! I was so happy to meet Sophia -I’ve been photographing her brother Dominic since he was around 5 months old, seeing these guys it is like checking in on old friends.

Rockridge Kids, Oakland

Check it out! I have twenty photos up in Rockridge Kids. When I first moved back to Oakland after 3 years in Miami, and was cruising around with my 5-month old Will, I found Rockridge Kids. At that time, the amazing Amy Perl was up on the walls -I pretty much ran home and emailed her right away, saying I loved her work and we should be friends. Over the years, many other photographers have come through the doors -last one was my awesome Little Bird School Photography partner, Kristen Policy. So it is with honor that I have had my rite of passage and now show my stuff there.

Stop in and buy some toys for your kids! It is a great establishment; I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the owner and all the cool people that work there. And… if you see my postcard at the register -read the back! You will get a cool gift from your portrait shoot.

Home again…

I went to WPPI las weeken, this big wedding & portrait photographers conference in Vegas. It was a wonderful trip -I met a number of new friends and got closer to ones I have. I learned so much about where I am and the areas I want to grow as a photographer… There are many new ideas jumping around my head and I have that excited feeling that makes me wish there were more of me to get it all done.

Anyhow, Vegas can be kind of gross, -no offense, but there were days when I didn’t even make it outside! That recycled smoke-air leaves something to be desired. I was so so happy to come back to the beautiful bloom of Spring here in Oakland. The first afternoon home I went on a walk behind our house with the kids. The light was dripping with color and this lens just ate it up. (24 1.4)

Will, eating celery. While I was gone, Drew says he only fed the kids if they asked for food. I tried it, and it works beautifully. When they are hungry, they’ll eat anything -even celery. He also dressed them for school before he put them to bed at night.

My last shoot of 2009! What a wonderful way to end the year. My neighbors (and friends) met me above Montclair village at “The Tunnel”. (It is where we both take our kids to yell.) After a good yell session, we walked along the path above it. It was freezing out, but they really rocked it. I love all the compositions we created, the group of 5 really worked well. Erica joined us, who is their nanny but really like the coolest older sister none of us have ever had. Anyhow, after 3 years of talking about doing this, I am so glad we finally did -and thank you for trusting me with documenting your familia.

I met this great family a few weeks ago, friends of these guys. We met at their house in Oakland and went for a walk around the neighborhood and ended the shoot playing in a pot of water. Great fun!

And, excuse me? How cute is this little face???

They have this beautiful little creek scene behind their house and we pretended we were in New England, with all the falling leaves.
